Triskel Promotions has been a small wholly independent Manx company, formed in 2002. It has been fortunate enough to showcase a wide variety of local and International Artistes during this period.
Since the pandemic, business terms notably with the larger UK Agencies representing artists, have changed to the detriment of the small time promoter.
Larger Agencies of popular acts are now insisting on 100% of the artist fee 30 days prior to show day. In the past, stagered deposits and balance were all negotiated prior to going on stage. This gave the smaller companies enough space to operate. The new approach, understandably, is to safeguard their acts, however it makes it nigh on impossible for independents, who don’t have other sources of revenue such as bar takings and advertising to generate.
“It is just how the music business has gone. Triskel would not be able to budget for a general fee of around £50-60k on those terms.especially if the date was months, even years before happening.
The added uncertainty of travel to/from the Island certainly doesn’t help”
Triskel have brought acts such as Squeeze,Brian Wilson,Primal Scream.Kaiser Chiefs and latterly, Sinéad O’Connor, tragically her final show in Britain. It was felt it would be nice to go out with something a little special and have lined up two very special shows in 2024.
2 March 2024 sees unsigned Edinburgh Indie band WREST play Peel Centenary. This band have created their success without help from any label or record management. They now sell out all over the UK and much of Europe. Described as “one of the most exciting new bands to emerge from the Scottish music scene” by BBC Radio.
They have confidently booked the Barrowlands in Glasgow, as headliners themselves for August 2024! A tight 4 piece whose style leans to Frightened Rabbit, The National, Bright Eyes, Idlewild and Snow Patrol.
Support comes from Jamie Blackburn (The Getaways)
A must see/hear in such intimate settings at the Centenary, currently enjoying it’s 20th Anniversary.
The finale or ‘Last Dance’ seems most fitting. The Gaiety is booked on
Sat 20th April 2024 for none other than Blues Rock local legend
DAVY KNOWLES.
A great, close friend of Promoter Lenny Conroy. They have shared many showcases over the years locally, toured Europe and a short stint in the US. Davy has released his new album of acoustic songs. IF I SHOULD WANDER, is a soul bearing, raw and deeply personal collection of songs written during the pandemic.
Davy will perform acoustic and electric and will feature local “house band” Lindsay and Steve Rowe on keys and bass with Steve Leach on drums. None are strangers to the Gaiety stage but this will be their debut backing Davy. A special night of over 2 hours of music is promised.
This is by no means DAVY KNOWLES final show here or anywhere!
Triskel would like to thank the many, many people that have attended shows, worked alongside with production, or generally supported them. A genuinely enjoyable ride. The Island is well placed for great entertainment to continue with the many other promoters and venues supporting local talent too.
“I know I will miss it within 5mins of the last note!”
Tickets for both shows go on sale Sat 4 Nov 2023 at 10am
